Pixcelate
Pixcelate lifts the subject out of a photo and hands you a clean transparent PNG. The segmentation model is bundled inside the app and runs on your own device, so there is no upload, no queue and no account — and it works in airplane mode.
Background removal that never leaves your phone.
Most background removers recognise a fixed list of things — people, cars, a handful of animals — and give up on anything else. Pixcelate uses a salient object model instead, which finds whatever the subject of the photo actually is without needing to name it. A plate of food, a pair of earrings, a houseplant, a signature on paper: all of them cut out the same way.
The cutout keeps a soft edge. Rather than deciding each pixel is in or out, the model produces a continuous matte that becomes the alpha channel directly — so hair, fur, blades of grass and motion blur survive instead of turning into a jagged sticker outline.
From there it is a proper editor. Eight filter presets, brightness, contrast, saturation and hue, blur, sharpen and clarity, rotation and aspect crop, and a background you can leave transparent or fill with a colour or gradient. Every change is non-destructive with twenty steps of undo, and you export as PNG or JPEG at full resolution or a size you choose.
What it does
A salient object model finds the subject without needing to recognise it, so food, products, plants and documents all work — not just people and pets.
The matte is used as a continuous alpha channel rather than an in-or-out mask, so hair, fur and grass keep their detail.
The 2.4 MB model ships inside the app. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and removal works with no connection at all.
Pick a Live Photo and Pixcelate pulls out candidate frames, ranks them by sharpness and matches Apple's own key photo so you start from the right still.
Presets, colour and detail adjustments, crop, rotate and background fill — all re-editable, with twenty steps of undo and redo.
PNG to keep transparency or JPEG to save space, at full resolution or a maximum edge you pick, straight to your photo library or out through the share sheet.
This app collects no data
Pixcelate collects nothing. Your photos are processed by a model bundled inside the app, on your own device — there is no account, no backend and no analytics. On Android this is enforced rather than promised: the release build does not request the INTERNET permission, so the system itself blocks any connection.
